The project

A local florist’s shop window, open online.

Stems of Colour is an independent florist in Great Baddow, Chelmsford, creating handcrafted bouquets and arrangements for every kind of occasion.

We designed and built an online shop for Stems of Colour that puts the flowers first. The homepage opens with the latest bouquets, each with its price, then leads into collections for bouquets, wedding and funeral flowers, accessories and hands-on workshops.

Bouquets come in a choice of sizes, and customers can add notes for the florist and a card message before adding an order to their cart. Same-day local delivery on orders placed by 2pm, collection from the shop in Great Baddow, and flowers for parties and events are set out above the footer of every page.

Key features

  • Shop by collection. Bouquets, wedding, funeral, accessories and workshops, each with a photographic tile on the homepage.
  • Sizes and card messages. A choice of size and price on each bouquet, with space for florist notes and a card message.
  • Workshops. Hands-on floristry workshops, such as the Christmas wreath workshop, sit in the shop alongside the flowers.
  • Delivery and collection. Same-day delivery across CM1, CM2 and CM3 on orders placed by 2pm, or collection from the shop.
  • WhatsApp button. A WhatsApp chat button stays in the corner of every page for quick questions.

Design approach

A deep teal header and a gold Shop Now button frame the flowers without competing with them.

Large photographs of arrangements in the making, with headings in light, widely spaced Jost capitals, give the site the calm of a florist’s studio.

Product grids stay simple, a square photograph, a name and a price, so the bouquets do the selling.
